FINALLY SOMETHING I WANT TO WRITE ABOUT
read more just in case. also I don’t pretend to be or say I am amazing at Japanese and I haven’t actually played the original Japanese game so this is a lot of conjecture.
But basically this isn’t a criticism of the localization — in fact I’m really impressed with how they localized it and I think they did a great job of localizing it.

Also it’s neat to note that Ace’s real name, Gentarou, means “firstborn son”. FIRST. ONE. I lol’d.
I think the Nirusu name is a reference to the scientist Niels Bohr, who he apparently said was his favorite scientist in the original version.
Other things I remember:
- The first puzzle with the suitcase locks were originally a puzzle that used Hiragana or so, but of course, that needed to be localized.
- The [q] door in the end. Nine in Japanese is also pronounced ‘kyuu’ which sounds much like Q. Granted, they did localize this point pretty decently except for when they used the cut-in of the loudspeaker that Zero talked through.
- Funyarinpa doesn’t really mean anything in original Japanese either.
